Wedsworth Memorial Library

Wedsworth Memorial Library is the beating heart of our community. We want everyone to know that they are welcome and safe when visiting their library. It’s for this reason that Wedsworth Memorial Library is excited to announce that it is adding an Automated External Defibrillator (AED). Additionally, because medical emergencies often combine several problems, the AED comes with a Stop-the Bleed Kit and nasally administered naloxone, or Narcan, (to counteract opioid overdose).

AEDs are compact devices that diagnose heart-related problems, and if a shock is necessary, will talk rescuers through the process. The AED Wedsworth Memorial Library is installing comes with both adult and pediatric paddles because heart attacks can happen to children as well as adults. We’re prepared to aid anyone in the library with lifesaving care, should they experience an emergency at the library.

When a heart stops beating regularly, an AED can restore its rhythm and save a life. In the event of a cardiac emergency every minute counts while waiting for professional emergency service personnel to arrive. It is with this in mind that the library has made this life-saving device available.

These items are a gift from the non-profit Trust for Montana Libraries, in conjunction

with support from the American Red Cross of Montana and Riverstone Health of Billings. Wedsworth Memorial Library is grateful to be one of twenty-nine Montana libraries participating in the project. We are pleased to offer this lifesaving tool in the library, which serves as Cascade’s shared living room. We don’t welcome medical emergencies, but if one happens, with these emerge tools we’re better able to manage them while we wait for professional help.

The Trust for Montana Libraries is a 501(c)3 organization, founded in 2019 to help support all of Montana’s publicly funded libraries. The Trust received support for this project from private donors, funds from the Montana Opioid Abatement Trust, assistance from the American Red Cross of Montana, and help from Riverstone Health of Billings. By this gift of an AED to Wedsworth Memorial Library, the Trust is improving your library’s emergency preparedness, making your library and your community a safer

place for everyone.

Your library is your community’s lifelong learning partner. With this AED, the Wedsworth Memorial Library adds a powerful tool to keep our community safer.
