Wedsworth Memorial Library

The Cascade 250 Committee has organized some fantastic events for our community’s celebration.   We are excited to bring you great memories and great times on July 3rd and 4th. For some it will bring back childhood memories. We have a clear goal: to foster civic engagement and raise awareness of both United States and Montana history.

On July 3rd: Kid’s games will run 1:00-3:30 at Legion field on North end of Town. Fabulous prizes await all kids who participate. Enjoy history with gunny sack races, hoop races and plenty of fun filled activities.

We hope you have your plans laid out. Out compete the next-door neighbor for dazzling floats, top notch antique car/tractor or decorated bicycle/wagon. Liven up the Town. It helps us if you sign a parade entry form to be found at Town Hall or Wedsworth Library.

Line up for the parade begins at 3:00 at the Legion field on North end of Town for a 4:00 p.m. parade.  Be captivated by a Fly Over at 4:00 by Malmstrom & Mike Milburn. Leading the parade will be the Air National Guard Honor guards. We are still looking for someone/group to provide music leading the parade. So purse those lips and get in marching mode. We have some great entries already lined up. Rumor has it the Americans from Great Falls possibly will be making an entrance.

Grand Marshalls are: Earl Sukut, Mary Ellen Miller, Lois Rumney, Kitty Wojtla, Shirley Mahoney, Fred Preble, Dot Lussier, Jackie Berger, Bonnie Eller, Freida Sibley, Betty Sandford, and Joan Slocum. We honor these long-standing community members.

After the parade, keep the party going at our Food Truck Rodeo—the ultimate grand finale for every craving!  Hope you are polishing up your automotive/tractor masterpieces that have aged into legend. The car/tractor show follows the parade. Organizational booths will be set up and run throughout the day along with free swimming. The Trailhead group’s booth will promote flag etiquette and will be handing out small hand flags.

Our annual Softball games begin after the parade up by the pool.

Senior Center’s Museum will host an Open House 1:00-4:00 and the Methodist Church and Church of Latter -Day Saints will host tours: 4:00-6:00. Need to feel more patriotic and dazzle the crowd? Heather Lewis will be selling T-shirts both days. Merle Peterson, imitating Johnny Cash’s music style, livens up the evening at 5:00 p.m.

Channel that inner decorator and turn the volume up to eleven! We’re talking ‘over-the-top’ and ‘unstoppable’ energy. Show your colors! We’re hosting a patriotic decorating showdown for both local homes and businesses. Judging will commence on July 1st. Prizes include a park pass and map, and a pass granting entry to the Lewis & Clark Interpretive Center and Voyager Tickets.  This is a real incentive to go all out.

Don’t forget the flags. Pickup a flag at Town Hall to fly high. Let’s keep Montana at the top and make its flag‑waving spirit shine as a testament to freedom, integrity, and independence.

On July 4th a new flag will be raised at 10:00 at Atkinson Park. The Women’s Club will provide coffee, doughnuts, and muffins after the flag raising. The Women’s Club will also have a basket full of 250th memorabilia to be given away. One only needs to deposit their name in the jar for a chance to win.

Softball returns for an all-day marathon—catch the games from morning till dusk.

Senior Center Museum will host an Open House 1:00-4:00 and the Methodist Church and Church of Latter-Day Saints will host tours: 9:00-12:00.  Organizational booths will be set up and run throughout the day along with free swimming.

Charlie Russell; Thomas Jefferson, and George Washington make their appearance at 11:00-1:30 along with a cowboy poet in this time frame.

Join us for a BBQ at 5:00, followed by a fireworks spectacular as soon as the sun goes down

Mr. Bodecker’s English students are burning the midnight oil (and their pencils) on their essay entries. We have $25.00 Barnes and Noble gift cards for the top 3 essays along with gift certificates from Pizza Ranch.

You love to win, especially if it’s free! Many of our local businesses will be hosting raffle baskets. To enter – add your name to the jar when you visit. No dinero involved. Now is the time to get to know the heart of our town — the people, the stories, and the Montana pride that binds us.

Oral Histories of community families and businesses are soon to be completed. These will be forwarded to the State Memory Project and hopefully placed on the Town’s You-Tube site. Stay tuned—we’re continuing to up the ante with more surprises on the way!

This year let us remember what that ragged old flag has gone through and what it stands for our country and remember the sacrifices of our beginning forefathers to bring us the freedoms we wholeheartedly celebrate now. “And for the support of Declaration, with a firm reliance on the protection of Divine Providence, we mutually pledge to each other our lives, our fortunes, and our sacred honor.”
